Sony Ericsson W810i – The Ultimate Music-Lover’s Phone

Sony Ericsson W810i

The Sony Ericsson W810i is the latest offering in the brand’s range of Walkman phones. Sticking to what they do best, Sony has hit the nail on the musical head again. The sound quality is simply awesome and will blow young minds away! It basically removes any need to have an iPod. But is the rest of the phone as good?

The actual appearance of the Sony Ericsson W810i is pretty standard and boring stuff. It is simply designed and does little to make a lasting first impression. The screen, with a resolution of just 176×220 pixels, is far below what we have come to expect of our mobile phones today. However, this is redeemed by the fact that it has a sensor to brighten the screen when necessary, which makes the crisp text visible in all lights.

You will fall in love with the W810i when you hold it. Image is nothing compared to the feel of this phone. It is light and well rounded for a comfortable grip. The keypad is small but well defined, which makes it easier to use. Navigation is also simple as a result of the keys, as well as the clarity of the menus.

The W810i comes complete with bluetooth, infrared and USB for excellent connectivity, as well as a 2MP camera that produces fantastic images in all conditions thanks to an LED flash. For the business audience out there, it also has conference calling and Outlook capabilities that can enhance your ability to conduct your affairs effectively.

The Walkman capabilities of the phone are impressive to say the least. It supports MP3 and FM radio in one easy to use package. The controls are designed to skip from one track to the next in a simple touch of a button. The sound quality is excellent, especially when the W810i is hooked up to speakers. However, its major design flaw lies in the fact that it only has 20MB of internal memory. You have to buy the Duo memory stick separately to expand this up to 1GB, which is a disadvantage for the entire package.

Other slight annoyances do make the W810i a phone that takes some getting used to. The battery life is great, with around 5 days of standby time, until you start playing music. This really eats into the battery and cuts talk time down to around two hours, and not much more when playing your tunes. If it is in for heavy-duty use, then take a charger on your travels.

The Sony Ericsson W810i is an amazing music phone, but this detracts from its ability as a business phone too. What you see is what you get with its musical capabilities, but it makes an adequate phone for people who prefer a functional camera with decent call capabilities. Whatever you need a phone for, the W810i can most likely give you what you want.
